Doing some searching on a few different questions really does open a lot of doors. I suggest if you have specific wants, before buying a new computer or any electronic device for that matter, check to make sure the item your thinking about buying does have those specific wants.

One of the reasons this came about to be decided worthy of mention follows below.

About a Netbook with a 10.1" display screen

For an example, a question that led to one of my web pages, as to whether a certain make and model of Netbook, the
'HP Mini 2102 WH238UT Netbook - Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz, 1GB DDR2, 160GB HDD, 10.1" WSVGA, Windows 7 Starter, 3-Cell, Black'
to be the one asked about, was whether it could burn cd's or not.
To find the answer I looked in the list of 'Specifications'. Where 'Optical Drive' is listed it gives a 'N/A' reply, so this tells me that there is no 'Optical Drive' in the 'HP Mini 2102 WH238UT Netbook', and therefore it by itself can not burn or play any type of CD or DVD of any type. But, to remedy this, you would simply connect an external CD/DVD-ROM Drive, (usually will connect and be powered all by means of a USB connection),  which different products will come with different titles. Such as a CD burner or CD drive may more than likely burn a CD (as in audio) and a DVD (for video and audio), just read the information and/or specs provided with the product description to find out.
An 'Optical Drive' can be Internal or External, being 'Internal' would be installed inside the device, and 'External' being a 'stand alone' device, built into it's own case made to be used outside of a device. Most of which are powered by and exchange all other information through a USB connection.
The 'HP Mini 2102 WH238UT Netbook' does have a 'Media Card Reader' built in which means that you can copy to a media card, and/or watch, and/or view, from anything that you want to save to, or, have saved on, a 'Media Card'. More simply put, the media card could and/or can replace the need for a disc of any sort or type.
There is also a relatively easy solution so that you can watch or listen to your favorite DVD or CD, if you have or are going to purchase a netbook or any other portable computer/device that doesn't have it's own disc player installed. As long as there is a way to connect and the devices support it. You can purchase an external DVD/CD burner, also known as an 'External Optical Drive'

Data
Information that is stored referring to use in computers You can go here if you want more detail

I also liked this reference as it mentioned 'information' which to me is another way to describe it.(page may be slow loading) http://searchdatamanagement.techtarget.com/definition/data
Also, here is another very good definition, give more attention to the 'Computer' mentioned area for the use desired for this concept. http://what-is-what.com/what_is/data.html

Hard Drive Capacity

(if you click the above link), scroll down on the page where you land for information about what it is.
Also,,,The 'Hard Drive' in your computer, or 'HDD' Hard Disk Drive. Is the large capacity memory for a computer. Memory capacity measured as 'GB' 'gigabytes' commonly ranging around 160 to 320 to 500 and now also seen are capacities as 'TB'  which is a 'terabyte' which is 1000 'gigabytes' and a gigabyte is 1000 or 1024 'MB' or megabytes. (note that: when you are looking at DRAM memory the common units per 'stick' or 'module' will be in 1,2,3, or 4 GB's) Read more about what the 'HDD' is here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_disk_drive

Media
When in the reference of computers, components of which data can be stored. Multimedia could refer to the different types of data stored, such as video, audio, and images. Thus a 'multimedia memory card', or just, 'multimedia card', is capable of storing all different types of 'media', or 'data' . (some reference derived from http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/M/media.html)

Memory

learn about what it is is located on the page where you will land after clicking, scroll down when you get there.
Perhaps also referred to as RAM, random access memory, or DRAM, dynamic random access memory. Also would be any type of portable memory not directly available to the CPU of the computer, (reference from  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_data_storage), such as flash memory or media cards, compact or computer disks, CD's and DVD's are forms of memory storage.

Operating System

Purchase your own

Processor / CPU
Information about what it is, what it does, why it should be the first thing to consider when buying one to upgrade your existing computer or buying a new computer

RAM or DRAM
'Random Access Memory' and 'Dynamic Random Access Memory'. Also now more commonly referred to in different abbreviation combination such as DDR RAM, DDR, DDR2, DDR3, and more. Basically is a temporary storage of bits of information between the Hard Drive and the CPU 'Central Proccessing Unit' or Processor for faster access by the processor than to find and process information from the 'hard drive'.
